About My Poetry

I am mainly active in the field of epic poetry, where an ongoing effort of mine is to revive the art-form of epic poetry in performance with a Canadian epic poem entitled The Plains of Abraham, which has its own mini-site on these pages. I am currently composing an alliterative poem, in the style of Beowulf, about the Halifax Explosion of 1917.

I have also been active as a translator, translating the first three Satires of the Roman poet Juvenal and starting on the Elegies of Propertius, besides attempting translations of various other ancient poems. (Incidentally I have also written a couple of scholarly articles on the theory of translation, though not with reference to these authors.)

I am also always dabbling at original lyric poetry, mainly in English but also in French and Latin.
